Aromatic herbs such as sweet orange peel are a key ingredient in the production of craft beers, especially in styles like Belgian Wit, American Wheat, and many traditional Belgian beers such as Bière Blanche, Grand Cru, Tripel, and classic Christmas Ales.
Usually added in the last 15 minutes of the boil, it imparts unique and complex aromas, with notes reminiscent of fine liqueurs such as Grand Marnier or Cointreau.
Beyond their aromatic contribution, herbs were historically used to improve beer preservation. Today, they are valued for their ability to enrich the beer’s sensory profile with citrusy, spicy, and floral touches.
